The Thompson River, named after the Northwest Trading Company's explorer and topographer David Thompson, is formed at Kamloops by the joining of the South and North Thompson River branches. It flows west and south to Lytton where it feeds the Fraser River of southern BC. Known for its high water, the Thompson River is hugely popular for sport fishing and white water rafting.
